After leaving Spences Bridge the train follows a steady 1% upgrade along the Nicola River Valley to Merritt. There will be 8 crossings of the Nicola along the way. Coming over one of these bridges the train is about to cross British Columbia Highway number 8 which also leads to Merritt.
