CPR Police to be Tenant in New Public Safety Building

The City of Port Moody has received confirmation from Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) that they will enter into a lease agreement with the City for approximately 4,000 square feet in the new Public Safety Building at 3051 St. Johns Street. The lease would become effective 1 Nov 2007, subject to final lease term negotiations. John Walsh, VP Real Estate & Supply Services for CPR said, "We look forward to this partnership, and the ongoing relationship between the City of Port Moody and Canadian Pacific Railway."

CPR Police Chief Gerry Moody noted the long history CPR has had with Port Moody. "The City was once the western terminus for CPR. This partnership between Port Moody Police and CPR Police represents a continuation of the important role CPR has played in Port Moody history."

Port Moody Chief Constable Paul Shrive said, "This much needed facility will serve to meet the current needs of the Police Department and provide room for expansion in the future. The lease agreement with CPR provides revenue for the City until that space is required for City needs."

"Establishing partnerships that offset City costs is an excellent way for the City to reduce cost impacts on residents," said Mayor Joe Trasolini. "This partnership allows the City to defray costs and construct a public safety building with less of an impact on City funds."

The City is currently negotiating with an additional tenant partner for the new Public Safety Building. Details will be released soon.

The Public Safety Building, originally built in 1986, is slated for renovation and expansion with construction expected to begin later this Fall.
