CPR Train Derails
Near Manitoba
Newdale - A
Canadian Pacific Railway freight train heading west from Winnipeg derailed in western Manitoba
yesterday morning. CPR spokesman Ed Greenberg said 20 empty potash cars left the tracks about 9 a.m.
in a farmer's field near Newdale, about 250 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
"There were no injuries and no environmental impacts as a result of the derailment",
Greenberg said. "It was in an area of a farmer's field. There was never any danger to residents
of the community".
Crews were clearing the tracks by noon. It's not known what caused the rail cars to derail.
The train had a total of 117 cars.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and CPR are investigating.
