Intense Blaze, Truck-Train Crash All on 1 Shift
Dryden Ontario - Dryden and Wabigoon teams were called
away when a train and truck collided around 8:30 p.m.
Occupants of the truck got out of the vehicle just before the crash.
Provincial police officers were called on to keep traffic a safe distance away from the fire due to a residence being near the
highway.
Dryden, Wabigoon, and Machin crews left the scene around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Oxdrift firefighters extinguished spot fires for another hour.
Investigation continues into the fire as well as the railway track crash.
Police said a westbound train and southbound pickup driven by a 28-year-old Wabigoon resident collided at the Polar Star
Road crossing, east of Dryden.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries while the passenger wasn't hurt, police said.
CP Rail spokeswoman Breanne Feigel said the train crew "went into an emergency break situation" ( Editor: Not my
mispelling! ) when they saw the vehicle in the crossing.
There were no injuries to the crew, she said.
