Fleeing Man Hit by Train
Aldergrove British Columbia - Police are still trying to
piece together a bizarre and tragic scenario that ended with a man deliberately jumping in front of a train and killing himself on
Wednesday evening in Glen Valley.
Just before 7 p.m., people watched a driver launch his vehicle 30 feet over a ditch, landing in a yard in the 8700-block
of 272 Street.
The driver got out of the vehicle, and the home owner starting yelling at him but he fled.
Langley RCMP arrived minutes afterwards with a police dog, in an attempt to find the driver.
At that time, police didn't know if the vehicle was stolen or whether the driver was drunk or injured.
The police dog wasn't able to track the driver.
Less than 30 minutes later, Canadian Pacific Railway called Langley RCMP to let them know that a man had jumped in front of a train a
quarter mile away from where the missing driver had fled from his car.
The train engineer told police the individual "had very deliberately jumped in front of the train", said police spokesperson
Const. Holly Marks.
Police continue to investigate. The identity of the man hadn't been confirmed by police.
