Young Man Killed on Train Track
Salmon Arm British Columbia - Jumping a ride on the
rails wound up being fatal for a 28-year-old Salmon Arm man.
Police and paramedics were called on at 1:14 a.m. Sunday, 19 Apr 2009, to the railway tracks near the old Canadian
Pacific Railway station in Salmon Arm where a man had reportedly jumped from a train.
According to Sgt. Eric Castle, officers found the body of a man later identified as Rodney Lane Boland.
Castle says investigating officers learned that Boland had succumbed to severe injuries suffered after he attempted to step off the
train he'd ridden in from Malakwa.
Police say he had apparently jumped onto the train when it slowed in Malakwa and tried to jump off in Salmon Arm, but it was
travelling faster.
"In doing so he was sucked under the train and received massive injuries from which he could not recover", said Castle.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the incident, which continues to be investigated by the RCMP, CPR Police, and the B.C.
Coroners Service.
