Railway Used in Movie
Enhancing a movie - The Kettle Valley Railway's steam
locomotive will appear in the movie "Gunless". A portion
of the western comedy will be filmed along the railway bed.
Summerland British Columbia - The scenic Kettle
Valley Steam Railway will be the backdrop for part of a Canadian movie scheduled for filming later this spring.
Jo Ann Reynolds, marketing manager with the steam railway, said the cast and crew of "Gunless" will spend three days in June
filming scenes along the railway bed.
"This will be one of the last scenes they shoot in the valley," she said.
The railway's steam locomotive will also appear in the background.
The movie is written and directed by William Phillips and stars Paul Gross. It is a western comedy, set in the late 1800s.
Reynolds said much of the shooting will be done in Osoyoos but the railway scenes needed Summerland's backdrop.
The movie is one of several film projects which have been shot in Summerland in recent years.
A portion of the 2001 movie "Lunch With Charles" was filmed at the Trout Creek Trestle Bridge and an episode of the English
television series "The Mole" was shot at the railway.
The railway's 1924 Shay locomotive was shipped to the Lower Mainland for the filming of the 2003 television series
"Peacemakers".
Reynolds said the filming opportunities have been good for the railway.
"A lot of tourist railways actually seek movie opportunities," she said.
She is hoping the success of recent filming projects here will bring more movie crews to the area.
"We certainly would love to see more of that activity," she said. "It's good for everyone - not just the railway but
the valley as a whole."
