Five Properties Join Historic Places List
Frederiction New Brunswick - City council has
approved the inclusion of five properties on the Local Historic Places Register, established as a result of a federal government
initiative to encourage heritage conservation.
A subcommittee of the city's preservation review board has vetted the properties for their historic value. The property owners must
give their approval to have their the properties added to the register.
The city will add 800 Union St., which is the former Canadian Pacific Railway roundhouse site, to the register.
The roundhouse, located in Carleton Park, served the New Brunswick Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Composed of eight
pie-shaped sections, the roundhouse hugged the locomotive turntable.
In 1893, the roundhouse was destroyed by a fire, which razed more than 100 buildings in Gibson.
