Mixed Development Planned for Landmark in Brandon
Painting of the Brandon
Station.
Brandon Manitoba - Another of Brandon's historic
buildings has been scooped up by a developer with plans to breathe new life into the city's core.
One day after reporting that the former Canadian Pacific Railway station has been purchased by a former Brandon businessman who will
restore the station and then lease it out as commercial space. The Brandon Sun has learned that the former McKenzie Seeds building on
Ninth Street has also been purchased by British Columbia-based Resland Development Corp.
The company will renovate the property's five-and-seven-storey structures into a mix of apartment-style
condos and commercial space, says Daryl Carpenter, Resland's property manager.
The company plans to completely gut the interior and build about 80 residential units for both rental and purchase, with the main
floor of the seven-story portion tagged to house commercial space. The design could also allow for a
"live-work" studio concept.
Some underground parking will also be created, along with serviced, outdoor stalls.
Components of the building's history will be integrated into the construction wherever possible, Carpenter
said.
