Canadian Railway Stowaway Caught by U.S. Border Scan

Noyes Minnesota USA - U.S. authorities in Minnesota have punted a Canadian man from their country after he was caught hiding on a rail car which entered the state from Manitoba.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) service did not identify the stowaway or his hometown but said he is a Canadian citizen.

The man was caught at the Noyes, Minnesota, port of entry, just east of Emerson, on 5 Jul 2009.

His attempt to sneak into the U.S. ended when the train passed through a gamma imaging station, according to a CBP media release.

Gamma imaging officers spotted the man's outline aboard a hopper car and took him into custody.

The man was processed as an inadmissible alien and returned to the Canada Border Services Agency, the CBP said.

CBP uses gamma imaging systems to scan cargo containers, rail cars, vehicles, or tractor-trailer units, looking for anomalies which may be illegal cargo such as drugs or stowaways.
