Sale of Montreal's Windsor Station to Cadillac Fairview Gets Approval
Canadian Pacific Railway's Windsor Station in Montreal,
Quebec.
Montreal Quebec - The federal government has given
Canadian Pacific Railway the go-ahead to sell Montreal's historic Windsor Station to Toronto-based Cadillac
Fairview Corp.
The authorization to sell to the real-estate arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board came in an
order-in-council which was issued 16 Jul 2009.
The board is one of the country's biggest pension funds and a major property owner across Canada.
Canadian Pacific spokesman Michel Spenard would not comment on the terms of the sale, saying only that he expects the deal to be
closed by the end of July.
The federal cabinet order says Canadian Pacific must provide proof to Parks Canada that Cadillac Fairview will respect the historic
character of the station.
The Windsor Station office building and courtyard, the Windsor Tower, and an interest in the Bell Centre parking garage were among
the parcels of real estate up for sale.
The 380 railway employees in the station will remain as the company becomes a long-term
tenant.
