Victoria Vancouver Island British Columbia - Ken
Mariash, the man behind the Bayview and Roundhouse developments in the Songhees area, says he will be paying much closer attention to
Victoria as he gears up for the next phase of construction.
With the first of three towers in the Bayview development now complete, Mariash said the focus has shifted to the design and drawings
of the next two towers and the first steps of Roundhouse site remediation.
Mariash has brought Bob Rennie, principal of Rennie Marketing Systems in Vancouver, on board for the next stage of the development.
Rennie, known as the Condo King in Vancouver for his work on a variety of high-profile developments on the mainland, is no stranger to
Vancouver Island.
Mariash said Rennie will help the development increase its profile and get across the message that an entire community is being
established at Bayview and the Roundhouse.
"We have to start saying more about the whole community we are building," said Mariash. "We've been pretty invisible in
terms of this market."
Mariash expects that to take a year and for construction to start in late 2010.
This year, the remediation is expected to start on the Roundhouse project, where Mariash has paid to clean up and repair the
4.25-hectare former Canadian Pacific Railway site.
There are tentative plans to transform the neglected brick buildings, which have heritage designation from the city, into shops, pubs,
restaurants, offices, community space, and a rail-line maintenance facility.
Also part of the $250 million Roundhouse project are a hotel and more than 400 condominiums.
