Money Raining Down on City
Owen Sound Ontario - Promises of cash from Ottawa
and Queen's Park continue to pile up for Owen Sound, which has received $53 million in funding commitments since June.
"It's overwhelming when you consider the amount of money that's come our way. It comes with a whole lot of responsibility and we
take that responsibility very seriously," Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners said yesterday.
The city learned this week it will receive $259,000 from the province to revitalize its downtown and harbourfront. Part of the money
will be used to renovate the recently purchased Canadian Pacific Railway station and to provide free wireless Internet service in the
city's downtown.
The province and city will also pay $50,000 apiece to fix up the derelict CP Railway station on the city's eastern harbour.
"That will take a negative down there and turn it into a positive," Furness said.
