Man, 49, Fined After Car Hit by Train
Sudbury Ontario - A Greater Sudbury man who had more than three
times the legal limit of alcohol in his system when a train struck his car has been fined $1,000 and lost his driver's licence for one
year.
Mark Siren, 49, pleaded guilty Wednesday in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Sudbury to a count of blowing over for the
12 Apr 2009 incident.
The court heard Siren was in his Chevrolet Malibu near the railway tracks west of Donnelly Drive in Garson about 11:30 a.m.,
12 Apr 2009 when a northbound train approached the area.
Siren then drove his car down the road and onto the tracks heading straight for the train. The train struck the car, causing it to
roll over and go down an embankment.
"That day, I attempted to take my life," Siren told the court. "It was a disappointing time. I think I have come a long
way since then. I am very ashamed of what I did to my family.
"I have taken steps to address my problems and better my life as best I can."
