2 CP Trains Involved in Derailment in Alyth Yard

Calgary Alberta - Two Canadian Pacific (CP) trains "made contact" with each other, causing a derailment near the Alyth yard in southeast Calgary, company officials say.

The incident happened about 09:20 Saturday near Ogden Road and 50th Avenue S.E.

"The incident involved an intermodal train and a local yard train," the company said in an emailed statement.

"There were no injuries and there are no public safety concerns. CP immediately dispatched teams to the site. The cause of the incident is under investigation."

The company did not make clear whether one or both trains had derailed.

It appears as though about a dozen rail cars left the track, however there has been no official word from CP on the number of cars involved.

A CP spokesperson said the cars were carrying "a variety of products."

Police are redirecting traffic and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The Calgary Fire Department said there were no leaks or spills and all cars remained upright.
