Medicine Hat Alberta - A locomotive built in Montreal in 1930 has come through Medicine Hat on it's
way south.
It passed through Medicine Hat on Friday afternoon and is overnighting in Dundurn.
It leaves from the rail yard at 09:00 on Saturday.
Constructed by Montreal Locomotive Works in December 1930, the 4-6-4 Hudson type steam locomotive was initially
designed for swift freight and passenger transport, according to CPKC.
The train was initially constructed with coal as its fuel source, but during the restoration phase it underwent a
conversion to operate on diesel fuel.
Operating mainly in Eastern Canada for almost three decades, it ceased operations on 26 May 1960.
After serving as a mobile ambassador for Canadian Pacific across Canada and the United States, it was stored in
2012.
After a decade of dormancy, it has now returned to the rails.
As of now, a specific time for it's arrival and departure of Medicine Hat is unknown.
However, a train tracker can be found on CPKC's website to analyze it's location as it travels across
Alberta.
Rebecca Stephen with CPKC told CHAT News there will be an event in Moose Jaw on Sunday with activities, a museum
exhibit, and rides on a one quarter scale size steam train.
"Steam engines like this are pretty rare these days," Stephen said.
"People are very excited to see it running again, we're very excited about the excitement that people are
demonstrating for it."
