La Crosse Wisconsin USA - People in the Coulee Region have the chance to see some rolling history
on Sunday.
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC)'s restored 2816 steam locomotive, "Empress", is on it's way from
Calgary to Mexico City.
On its website, it said the railroad is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the merger between Canadian Pacific and
Kansas City Southern.
With the merger, the new company now has links between the three countries which is leading to the Canada-US-Mexico
tour.
The company calls the journey, which began in April, the Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour.
The Empress arrived on Friday at Union Depot in St. Paul.
When it departs, it will head along the Mississippi River on the Minnesota side before crossing into Wisconsin here in
La Crosse.
According to a company spokesperson, the train is coming through the La Crosse area sometime between 13:30-16:30,
Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the City of La Crescent said they've gotten word that the train is stopping in downtown La Crescent
very briefly for a crew change around 13:00.
Once in Wisconsin, the Empress is is heading to an event scheduled for 8 May 2024 in Franklin Park,
Illinois.
The train was built in December 1930 by the Montreal Locomotive Works and restored beginning in 2022 after a decade in
storage.
The restoration was finished in late 2023 after a series of test runs.
