Banff Alberta - The Norquay Road at the west entrance to the Banff townsite has been shut down
while Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway does emergency maintenance at the railway crossing.
The road was closed at 07:30, Thursday, 30 May 2024, and although there is no definite time for reopening, the best
estimate is currently about 18:30.
"Vehicles will not be able to enter or leave town on Norquay Road during the closure, and drivers will need to use
Banff Avenue," states the Town of Banff in social media posts and a Voyent Alert notification.
"CPKC discovered an emergent condition in the railroad crossing of the road that needs to be repaired immediately.
CPKC has slowed down all train traffic until the morning work to protect the defect."
Terry Cunha, a spokesperson for CPKC, said crews continually monitor the condition of rail infrastructure to protect
the safety of operations and the communities through which the company operates.
"As part of regular track inspections, a track maintenance issue was identified at Mt. Norquay Road," he said
in an email.
"Today, crews are at the crossing making necessary repairs."
