Calgary Alberta - A man is in life-threatening condition after a train collided with him in
downtown Calgary on Tuesday.
Around 10:50 police responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a CPKC train near 10 Avenue S.W. between
1st and 2nd Street, a CPS spokesperson told Postmedia.
"One person was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, however, with it being believed to be
mental health related, that's all we can say at this point," CPS said.
Fire crews, EMS, and CPKC staff also responded to the incident, said Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke
in an emailed statement.
The patient was found on the north side of the tracks and first aid began, including putting the person on a stretcher
and taking him to the ambulance, Henke said.
An Alberta EMS spokesperson said the man was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in critical
condition.
"The rail engineers were the ones who initially made the emergency services contact. In the downtown core that
time of day, I think there was more than one witness that may have also notified emergency services," said
EMS.
In an emailed statement, CPKC said the involved train moved out of the area Tuesday afternoon, and the incident is
under investigation.
