Rediscovered Tunnel on Kettle Valley Rail Trail in Final Redevelopment Phase
12 July 2024

Naramata British Columbia - The Adra Tunnel restoration project on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail in the hills above Naramata is in the final stages of completion and the group behind it is seeking approval from the province to continue.

A donation of $100,000 was made by philanthropists Sylvia and George Melville to help cover additional costs of the redevelopment.

Local businesses, volunteers, and donors have also contributed to this project making it a success, a Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen media release said.

The regional district along with the Woodwackers 2.0 community group, Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and contractors are working hand in hand to ensure the completion of the tunnel.

Woodwhackers 2.0 has also applied to the BC tourism growth program to secure additional funding to ensure completion.

Installation of tunnel entrance gates and signage, development of timber design, and construction of a concrete arch are waiting for approval to complete the final phase.

Currently the Adra tunnel remains closed from public use until further notice.
