SWITZERLAND

Switzerland is a landlocked country in the middle of Europe comprised of hundreds of tunnels penetrating high mountains supporting thousands of cows with loud bells hanging about their necks, or so it seems. Swiss cheese Gromit?

The Swiss seem obsessed with reaching the top of all their high mountains. This is great because they've done all the hard work so the tourist can simply ride a cable car, incline, or rack railway easily reaching the top of the highest peaks.

The Swiss speak three languages, German, French, and Romansh but there are a lot of Swiss who speak English and are happy to talk to you.

Switzerland is a confederation, the same as Canada, but instead of provinces the country is comprised of 26 cantons.

With a population of nearly 8 million it seems half walk about wearing a backpack and hiking boots sporting two of those ski-like, pole thingy's, used to keep them upright and prevent them from falling off their hills.

It's a clean, scenic, beautiful country with great food and railways galore to explore.

Euros are of no value here, the Swiss franc is the currency in use throughout all the cantons. One Swiss franc cost $1.35 Canadian in 2021.

Grease up your credit card. It'll get plenty of use and be whimpering in pain by the time you end your visit to Switzerland, but you'll thoroughly appreciate your visit.
