"Duchess" - 2-4-0ST Porter

No train brake. Originally, Dunsmuir Diggle & Company (DD&C) 2 foot 6 inch (762 mm) gauge 0-6-0ST number 2 "Duchess". (Named for Catherine S.D. Wellesley (1773–1831) wife of the 1st Duke of Wellington. DD&C sold to Wellington Colliery Railroad in 1883. Duchess converted to a 2-4-0ST by disconnecting the front drivers and gauge widened to 3 feet (914 mm) most likely about 1889. Resold to Albion Iron Works (dealer) and thereafter resold to John Irving Navigation Company in April 1900 for use on the Taku Tram. Irving Navigation purchased by the WP&YR in June 1900. Duchess powered the Taku Tram from 1900 to 1920. Used as a trash burner at Carcross, Yukon, from 1920 to 1931 - Date? Photographer?
