Surry British Columbia - A project to get heritage tourism passenger service back on the rails in Surrey will benefit from the proceeds of a class-action lawsuit.
Surrey Foundation will give $14,000 of a $190,000 class action settlement to Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society, which wants to get the passenger service running on the original interurban rail line between Cloverdale and Brownsville.
The society is benefiting because it supports transportation initiatives.
The lawsuit involved manufacturers of a durable, high-density rubber used in automotive weather-stripping and seals. It stemmed from price-fixing that resulted in Canadian manufacturers paying more for the rubber.
