9 September 2002 Lake Railway Extension Work is Right on Track Llanberis Wales UK - It's full steam ahead for a narrow gauge railway in North Wales as work finally begins on extending the track.   The Llanberis Lake Railway will be extended by 875 metres from the Padarn Country Park to its new terminus at Pont Victoria, linking the High Street's retail outlets with key tourist attractions, including the Slate Museum.   The work also involves improvements to the main Parc Padarn access road as well as landscaping and footpath upgrades and creating a 960-metre cycle track.   The new construction work, financed by the Welsh Development Agency, Wales Tourist Board, Finance Wales, and jointly managed by Gwynedd Council and the Lake Railway, will be completed by Easter next year.
