Goms is Accessible Again

Goms Switzerland - Goms is again accessible by train. After the valley was cut off Thursday afternoon between low and high forest because of avalanche danger trains are running again this morning. The car train on the Furka is back in operation.

Trains reached the snowy Obergoms again Friday morning. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn put train operation back on scheduled routes shortly before 6 clock. They announced the car train on the Furka was again possible. Due to the large avalanche danger between Lower and Upper Forest since Thursday afternoon Goms had been cut off.

On Thursday 40-70 inches of snow fell on Valais over the western and central Alps and the northern slope of the Gotthard massif. The canton of Grisons was under a 30-50 centimetre snow blanket. With rising temperatures, it rained up to a height of 2,000 meters on the snow which caused small and medium-sized wet avalanches.

Due to considerable avalanche danger the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn route from Niederwald to Oberwald had been closed since Thursday afternoon.
