The heritage award winning signal box at Corfe Castle is located opposite the station on the Down platform. A passenger shelter lies next to the box. Although the signal box has been in operation for nearly a year today the official opening ceremony will be held here, hence the speakers arranged on the platform. "Project Wareham" intends to make the railway capable of handling trains regularly from Swanage through a connection with Network Rail to Wareham. The signal box at Corfe Castle has to be fitted out with equipment that will interface directly with Network Rail such that trains can be exchanged without the need for padlocks and gates as is presently the case.
