During World War II Operation Pied Piper placed English children living in major cities on trains for evacuation to rural private homes in the countryside thereby avoiding German bombing raids. Today's kids in the photo are experiencing that history first hand as they board a train at Bury-Bolton Street Station. Notice they wear name tags and have brown paper wrapped boxes hanging around their necks by a string. There appeared to be an address written on the outside. I was unable to ask what the contents of the boxes might be. If a reader of this text knows what a box might hold, please satisfy my curiosity. |
