This photograph looking west shows the platform and signal box that serve the station at Peterborough on the south side of the River Nene. The spur track to the right leads to some stored stock while the track on the left is the run-around track for arriving locomotives. My guess would be the semaphore signal is out of service as indicated by the large X attached to the blade.
