Sumpter Valley Railroad

Sumpter Oregon USA - The Sumpter Valley Railway, which used to be a major logging railway, is being restored. The train, pulled by a 1914 vintage steam engine leaves Dredge Depot on a three mile run and heads toward the town of Sumpter every hour throughout the summer. A special "hobo run" will be the evening of 7 Jul 1984. the train takes you to a clearing in the woods, where you can dance and eat in the light of a bonfire.
 
Sumpter Valley Days, which includes food booths, a dress-up review, an old time melodrama, a black-powder shoot, and axe throwing contest, will be 30 Jun 1984 - 1 Jul 1984. Entrance fee is US$1 a person, US$3 a family.
 
An "Old-Time Fiddlers Show" featuring Oregon fiddlers will be held the following weekend at 2 and 7 p.m. in the city hall. Sumpter is 30 miles northwest of Baker.
