The train did not stop at what appears to be the abandoned Steinerne Renne bahnhof. The station is located at the foot of the climb to the Brocken by the Holtemme River. A hydro electric plant, first constructed in 1899, is located nearby. Once a popular Harz tourist destination the area seems neglected now. During World War II the Mittelbau-Dora concentration sub-camp for the construction of aircraft engine parts was once located in this area. Initially French, Belgian, and Italian forced labourers worked in the camp. One day before the occupation of the camp by American troops on 10 Apr 1945 five hundred prisoners were sent on a death march to Leitmeritz.
