This item was photographed from the train just after passing Drie-Annen-Hohne. It is a stack of new steel railway ties of an unusual configuration. Individual ties are triangular shaped. Each tie is rotated 180 degrees horizontally from the previous one when laid. Apparently the design minimizes rail creep caused by frost heaves.
