Naubaulok 99 7247-2 descends through the forest above Schierke bahnhof. Locomotives are not turned at Brocken so they must run backwards downgrade to Wernigerode. The rail line circles the mountain one and a half times in a spiral to reach the summit with two grade crossings of the Brockenstraße enroute to the summit.
