Montreal Maine & Atlantic locomotive number 5017 fire at Nantes - 23:30 - 5 Jul 2013 Nancy Cameron.
9 July 2013 Locomotive Fire at Nantes Nantes Quebec - The photo above purports to show MMA number 5017 on fire at Nantes at 23:30 on 5 Jul 2013, just hours before the derailment at Lake Megantic. This would then be the locomotive fire the Nantes firefighters extinguished with a subsequent locomotive emergency shut-down during the process. The following data, obtained from the internet, indicates the units involved in the Lake Megantic derailment and subsequent explosion and fire: MMA oil train number 606 departed St. Luc Junction in Montreal with General Electric model C30-7 number MMA 5017 leading followed by VB-2 Remote Caboose, C30-7 MMA 5026, leased SD40-2 CITX 3053, C30-7 MMA 5023, and SD40-2 CEFX 3166. The train originally consists of 126 cars including 53 manifest cars ahead of the 1 buffer and 72 loaded Bakken light crude oil laden tank cars.

Correction: A photo of MMA locomotive number 2002 included earlier with the news article dated 7 Jul 2013 "Train Was Ablaze Hours Prior to Derailment: Fire Chief". The attached caption indicated the possibility that unit was involved with the derailment. It now appears MMA 2002 was NOT involved with the Lake Megantic derailment.
