Desert and semi-arid land contains dry washes, sometimes called an arroyo or wadi, which are subject to flash flooding during seasonal or significant rainfall. In some cases as much as 8 feet of erosion may occur during a single flood event. The railway crosses this wide dry wash with a large girder bridge visible here from Happy Jack Road. The maps label Happy Jack as a road but it's really a dirt trail across the empty desert.
