Speeders Back on Alberni Rails

Port Alberni Vancouver Island British Columbia - For the fourth year in a row, members of Motorcar Operators West brought their speeders to Port Alberni for private runs on the Alberni Pacific Railway (E&N Port Alberni Subdivision).

A group of 22 speeders left Port Alberni for day excursions to Parksville on Monday and Tuesday.

They were headed to Nanaimo on Wednesday.

"They're here for the fourth year in a row, that's unprecedented," said railway spokesperson Kevin Hunter.

The group takes their restored rail motorcars on trips between Alaska and California.

The speeders began their week in the North Island, along the Englewood Railroad.

The group has for the past three years started out at Beaver Cove, at the end of the track on Vancouver Island.

"This really is an adventure experience," said Carol Balestreri of Sacramento, California.

"How often do you get to go on an active logging line?"

The speeder owners also like coming to Port Alberni because their track is privately owned and well maintained.
