Full Steam Ahead
and Good Friends Forward

Interlaken Switzerland - With 123,311 passengers carried in 2014 the ridership of the Brienz Rothorn Bahn (BRB) over the previous year decreased slightly by 1.2 percent.

"In the otherwise strong summer months of July and August, we had to accept a drop in ridership by 22 percent," said BRB Chairman Peter Flück.

But he was pleased that at the beginning and end of the season great ridership numbers were listed.

The storm of July, in which the route was flooded at the middle station Planalp, caused great damage.

"I was impressed by the hard work that has been done by the employees and external specialists."

Forward Strategy Bears Fruit

The 278 shareholders were presented a positive annual financial statement at the Annual General Meeting on Saturday at the Congress Centre Kursaal in Interlaken.

The railway revenue of CHF3.64 million was offset by an expense of CHF3.37 million.

The operating profit of the railway was recorded at CHF104,276.

The result is CHF37,161 and the cash flow was given as CHF534,000.

Steam Friends Indispensable

The BRB has to cope with major challenges over and over again.

The renovation of locomotive 16 has been tackled with the refurbishment being carried out at the mountain lodge.

The steam friends were "on track" again with loyal deeds and donations.

"Without the support of generous patrons much would not be possible. They are indispensable for us," Peter Flück said.

The 2015 season of the Brienz Rothorn Bahn, with unchanged prices, runs from Saturday, 6 Jun 2015, to Sunday, 25 Oct 2015.

The traditional, reduced operation to Planalp, starts on 9 and 10 May 2015. The perfect Mother's Day gift.
