Here's a look at the controls of a triebwagen with the typical European "steering wheel" (throttle). It appears to be both throttle and dynamic brake. It looks like those are resistance grids mounted on the roof of the triebwagens. A plaque on the consol beside the throttle reads "Brown Boveri". The consol is promently labelled "Vmax 30 km/h", or maximum permitted speed 30 kilometres per hour. The speedometer is located in the upper right corner of the photo on a pedestal between the two front windows. One would also guess that's a dead-man's pedal on the floor. It doesn't look like there is any security lock-out for the controls.
