Launceston Cornwall - Plans to extend a narrow gauge steam railway line have been abandoned, according to a Cornish steam company.
 
The Tourism and Rural Access in Cornwall (TRAC) Project was to deliver an extra two miles of narrow gauge track for the Launceston steam railway.
 
Now the council is giving back £500,000 of funding to Defra, and has agreed to a much reduced scheme.
 
Defra has agreed to the modified plan which sees the original £1.25 million funding cut to £750,000.
 
Launceston Steam Railway (LSR) had wanted to extend its line by two miles to Egloskerry.
 
Money from Defra for the project would have provided a new trail for cyclists, walkers, and horse riders, along other former railway routes at Launceston and Bude.
 
The original idea would have kept the cycle trail off-road, but the new council scheme incorporates some rural roads and narrow country lanes.
