The first fire has been lit in the firebox of NGG16 steam locomotive number 130 at Dinas on the Welsh Highland Railway.
Taking place on the 28 Jan 2021 the warming fire was lit outside Dinas Locomotive Works.
Pulled out of the works by resident diesel, Bill, the 2-6-2+2-6-2T's fire was carefully lit.
The reason for the warming fire is the locomotive's brick arch, which has been drying out in the workshop.
A warming fire will warm up the brick arch carefully, if there is still moisture in the arch, then this will damage the work completed.
Peter Best, on the Friends of 130 Facebook page, said that the fire would be lit again today (29 Jan 2021) which they hope that the locomotive can reach its full working pressure.
There was also time whilst the locomotive was warming up to give the paintwork a quick dowsing of soap and water.
Some great news from North Wales, and we cant wait to see the locomotive in operation.
