Steam locomotive Royal Scot pulls a special service through Swindon at a about 17:30 today.
 
Royal Scot, built in 1927 in Derby, was the flagship locomotive of the London Midland & Scottish Railway Company, operating the fastest services on the West Coast from London to Manchester and Glasgow.
 
After an extensive overhaul she returned to steam on the mainline in 2016.
 
Royal Scot was renumbered 46100 from her original 6100 by British Railways following the nationalization of the railways in 1948 being rebuilt in 1950 with a tapered design boiler.

She went on to serve another 12 years in traffic on the West Coast Main Line before being retired from service in Nottingham in October 1962.
 
Most of her years since retirement have been spent a static exhibit, most notably at the Butlins holiday camp in Skegness.
 
It was in September 2015 that Royal Scot returned to steam after an overhaul at LNWR Heritage taking several years.
 
Following testing in late 2015 her triumphant mainline return was in February 2016 from Crewe to Holyhead.
 
Today the Royal Scot pulls the Cathedrals Express from Sussex and London to Bath and Bristol.
 
Royal Scot hauls the special service from London to Bristol and back to London.
