This large black and white photograph was taken from the hill above Dunsmuir looking west down into the valley and the townsite. The old roundhouse is in the foreground with the trackage just beyond it lying north and south. The right hand corner of the roundhouse points at the old station. Immediately to the left of the station is a grassed area with Dunsmuir's fountain located in the center. The fountain is no longer there. Neither is the station, roundhouse, and several other buildings just west of the tracks. A large percentage of the town's buildings farther west are still present and in use today. Where the fountain sits in this photo is now a parking lot. It appears the present turntable is still at the same location but is now a larger steel structure. It seems unlikely a new pit would have been dug for the larger turntable. The original pit was most likely enlarged.
This undated postcard of Dunsmuir shows the fountain installed on the lawn behind the passenger train between the two station buildings.
