At one time trackage between Bedale and Leeming Bar was double track but Bedale station never received a second platform. With the double track converging at Bedale a signal box was required for control of switches, signals, and the gated crossing of Bedale Road. Until closure in 1954 up to five and seven trains each way operated along the line.
