7 Accused of Stealing Train Tracks
in Carbon County

Price Utah USA - Carbon County deputies investigating stolen railroad tracks say they've arrested seven people in the case.

Deputies say they were dispatched to the Gordon Creek and Pinnacle Peak area 28 Aug 2013 after reports people were taking rails from the Utah Railway Hiawatha line, which is not currently in use.

Officials later discovered a large amount of track and other metal materials were stolen from five separate locations and sold for scrap.

Railway officials say about 52 tons of metal material is missing, and they estimate their loss at about US$108,000.

Authorities arrested three people after making a traffic stop, and their investigation turned up four more suspects.

All have been charged with theft and criminal mischief.

Deputies believe the suspects made more than US$10,000 by taking the material to recycling centers.
