A planning application to restore Whitecroft Railway Station to its former glory has been submitted to the Forest of Dean District Council.
The proposed restoration would look to reinstate the buildings which were demolished in the late 1960s.
These include a main station building with a waiting room and toilets and a separate building for the men's loo, as well as restoring the station platform.
The idea is that the replacement buildings will replicate the originals as much as possible.
The steam operated railway is one of the main tourist attractions in the Forest, drawing in approximately 50,000 visitors a year.
Whitecroft is the only station on the route not to have been restored and the locals are behind the project.
The fee required for this work is £335 pounds and the council aims to respond to the application no later than 17 Feb 2011.
