From a ski lodge parking lot it is an easy walk over the top of the abandoned westernmost tunnel to its east portal. This photo looks down from the top of the east portal, at a rather odd concrete snowshed with a curved roof, the Chinese Wall, and another tunnel entrance. Not visible, immediately on the opposite side of the ridge, is a long line of concrete snowsheds. To the left a line visible at a distance in the trees is the current trackage which joins the new tunnel out of sight somewhere off to the right of the photo. Donner Lake is on the left. The town of Truckee can be seen in the far distance. Interstate 80 lies in the forest to the left above Donner Lake.
