Enthusiasts at Swindon & Cricklade Railway are celebrating the 60th birthday of one of their diesel locomotives this weekend.

The D3668, built at Darlington in 1959, spent most of its working life on central and southern routes.

It was taken out of service in 2000, arrived at the heritage railway in Swindon 10 years ago, and is a popular sight on the regular diesel service days.

It is still in its British Rail colours and will be hauling trains as part of the timetable which runs between 11:00 and 15:00 on Saturday.

The event is just one of a series planned for the season, including a Mothers Day service on 31 March 2019, the Easter Egg-Spress between 19 and 22 Apr 2019, and the annual real ale and cider festival in May.

There are also plans for a behind the scenes weekend offering visitors a chance to see all the work that goes on.

The railway, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, is based at Blunsdon.
