Over its last few years the Marpole Spur, also known as the Arbutus Corridor, saw little use by Canadian Pacific Railway. Local citizens began planting gardens behind their homes encroaching on the railway's right-of-way. It all came to a head when CP CEO Hunter Harrison had the railway employees dig up and dismantle the offending gardens. Following a legal battle and injunction the City of Vancouver and the railway came to an agreement with the corridor being sold to the city.
