Peak Rail Association have told Rail Advent that they have purchased a steam breakdown crane from Peak Rail PLC.
 
The breakdown crane was purchased in December 2020 for the price of £14,000.
 
This purchase was made to support Peak Rail PLC during the Coronavirus lockdown and help cover costs.
 
Currently, the crane is not in working condition as the boiler was removed some time ago.
 
The plan from Peak Rail Association is to fully restore the crane back to working use.
 
The crane was one of two ordered by LNER in 1936 for use on secondary lines.
 
Most sheds had a breakdown crane, but few remained on the Network after privatisation in the 1990s.
 
The steam crane has a lifting capacity of 36 tons and was numbered 941591 by LNER.
 
941591 worked with LNER and BR up until 1988 when it was withdrawn and stored at Toton Depot until it was moved to Matlock in August 1989.
