Elephant Seal Molting Beside Sooke River
27 March 2023
A female Elephant seal has been molting alongside the Sooke River for the past week.
Someone has named her Elie because she's an Elephant seal... of course.
She was lying on the sunny warm rocks today but moves to the grass to spend the night.
It was reported she was seen swimming yesterday.
Elephant seals take 3 to 4 weeks to complete a molt.
Please keep a safe distance, or better yet, respect her privacy during her catastrophic painful molt.
