A driver with prior convictions for impaired and dangerous driving is facing new charges after he was caught doing 163 kph (101 mph) on Sooke Road.
BC Highway Patrol allege the man in his 40s driving a newer-model Mustang was going more than double the speed limit and overtaking multiple vehicles on the double-lane section of Highway 14 (the Sookehalla) near the Sooke Hills Wilderness Park turnoff in Metchosin on 27 Apr 2023.
The man was arrested for dangerous driving and his vehicle was impounded.
"The manner in which this vehicle was being driven was inherently dangerous," said Staff Sgt. Adam Tallboy of the BC Highway Patrol.
"There are homes and bus stops within close proximity to the highway, as well as fellow motorists who are trying to get to their destinations safely."
Tallboy said May is High Risk Driving Awareness month in BC and police agencies across the province are stepping up enforcement of high-risk driving behaviours.
